Ted Partin, who resides in Brooklyn, graduated from Yale School of Art in 2004 with an M.F.A. Partin works within the black and white tradition of August Sander and Diane Arbus. Direct visual contact with his subjects, whether close friends or strangers, allows him to capture the masculine, feminine and gay gaze, often with sublime and startling results. He relies on direct gaze, subtle gesture and the seductiveness of the black and white print to establish a delicate triangle of desire and intimacy, while also chronicling important elements of our urban socio-sexual culture. Partin also currently teaches in New York. ReGeneration 50 photographers of tomorrow, published by Aperture Foundation in 2005, included Partin as one of them most promising photographers of his generation.
